Loose End is the brainchild of renowned Barossa winemaker and personality, Rob
Gibson (or "Gibbo" as he is known throughout the Barossa). Each year since 2002,
Gibbo selects top fruit sources from the Barossa harvest to assemble a range of
wines that is contemporary and truly reflective of the region's character-Loose
End...

After spending 22 years at Penfolds as Chief Viticulturalist and Winemaker, among
many other roles; releasing Gibson Wines and The Australian Old Vine Collection;
and starting an international winegrowing consultancy business, Gibbo created
Loose End Wines to provide the next generation of wine drinkers with hand crafted,
premium wines... without premium price tags. Loose End Wines are for wine drinkers
who focus on quality, desire wines made by real people passionate about
winemaking and seek unique wine experiences but steer clear of the "wine wanker"
community (comprised of those who enjoy pretension with their wine)...

Loose End is your invitation to GET LOST... in whatever way suits you. These days,
there are so many pressures to "tie up our loose ends" when-really-loose ends are
what make life exciting. Whether it be getting caught in the rain, getting lost on the
road or waking up on Saturday morning without any weekend plans, loose ends
invite possibility...

2007 Brooks Pinot Noir "Runaway Red" $21.95

US, Oregon

Always a great deal, this is a fun, easy to love Oregon Pinot at a great price. During a transport the wine barrel fell off the tractor and rolled down the hill, through the fence, broke off the fence posts, through the vines, and landed in the creek. Miraculously, the bung stayed in. So here were the winemakers and other people wrestling this 65 gallon barrel out of the creek in the cold and rain, rolling it back up the hill (very steep) in the dark. This barrel had a mind of its own!

Thus the name "Runaway Red". Pinot noir from the selfsame barrel, with a special label to memorialize the occasion. And guess what ? it's dang good ? a little weird, but dang tasty. Nice rich flavor, good fruit, nice aromatics. A good "house" pinot noir for your house with a cool label and a great story behind it.

Runaway Red is a pinot noir blend from various vineyards as well as negociant wine purchased from quality wineries in the northern Willamette Valley. It is made to be enjoyed earlier than most Pinots with less than 10% new oak and less than normal dose of sulfites. A bit rustic and ready. Red fruits, cherry and hits of mushroom and earth. The attack is fruity and bright with a good middle full of strawberry flavors finishing with bright clean acidity and very soft tannins.

2007 Santa Julia Malbec $9.95

Argentina, Mendoza

100% Malbec. Colour is violet-intense purple, concentrated and bright. A complex nose with varietal notes of ripe fruits, figs, prunes, jam and raisins. Also tones of vanilla, tobacco, coffee and chocolate due to partial oak aging.

A good body, with sweet tannins and well balanced by acidity. Structured to drink now, but will benefit by short term aging. A lingering and complex finish.
