2007 Maso Poli Pinot Grigio Trentino $23.95
Italy, TrentinoA wine with lots of ripe fruit and fresh acidity. Stands out. Medium- to full-bodied, with lovely fruit and a zesty finish. Drink now.
Vinification: The grapes are gently crushed for the traditional vinification process and thermo-controlled fermentation is followed.
Ageing: The wine is left to refine in yeast for 4-6 months. About 40% of the production is fermented is small French oak barriques, tonneaux and the rest in stainless steel.
Maso Poli Estate is along the Wine Route in the town of Pressano, pleasantly situated on the hillside above the town of Lavis, about 10 kilometres north of Trento. The estate can be described as a traditional Trentino "Maso", and that is to say, a family run farm that includes the farmhouse and surrounding land. The Maso Poli Estate extends over 15 hectares and is one of the largest "masi" in the area.
2008 Campobello Chianti D.O.C.G $9.95
Italy, TuscanyCampobello Chianti is made in the fashion of a young Bordeaux. Unlike the Grand Crus of the Medoc or the Chianti Classico Riservas of Tuscany, this dry red is vinified to capture the quality and essence of its more austere and longer lived counterparts, but in a classy, easy, friendly style. A careful selection of premium grapes (primarily Sangiovese) undergoes temperature controlled fermentation and a touch of oak. The resulting dry red is pleasant, vibrant and delicious, without the tannins of more costly Tuscan reds. Enjoy it young, although it will develop with moderate cellaring.
CHARACTERISTICS: The wine has a brilliant, ruby color, violets and strawberries in the nose, and a dry, fruity, harmonious taste with a pleasant finish. It is vinified to be enjoyed young.
GRAPE VARIETALS: 10% Canaiolo, 90% Sangiovese
ALCOHOL: 12%
ENJOY WITH: Campobello Chianti goes well with poultry, pizza, burgers, pasta with tomato and meat sauces, chicken and veal parmigiana, and stews.
2007 Carpineto Dogajolo $14.95
Italy,Tuscany
"Dogajolo" is the creation of Dr. Giovanni Carlo Sacchet, the first and only Italian enologist to have won the Robert Mondavi Trophy as the world's outstanding winemaker. A very innovative product, Dogajolo is a young Super-Tuscan made from Sangiovese grapes with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. The name Dogajolo comes from "doga", meaning wood stave, since the wine finishes its fermentation process in new wood barrels where it is aged for a total of 6 months.
CHARACTERISTICS: Dogajolo has a deep, vivid, ruby to purple color and a fragrant bouquet
of cherries and herbs, accented by hints of vanilla and coffee. The taste
is ample yet soft on the palate, complex and well developed.
GRAPE VARIETALS: 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 80% Sangiovese
ALCOHOL: 12%
ENJOY WITH: Given its fruitiness, Dogajolo can be paired with first courses and white
meats, but shows best with full-flavored dishes such as roasts, grilled meats, salami, and Tuscan regional specialties.
